Kids Costume Parties Are Not Only For Birthdays and Special Occasions

Children get extremely excited when they know there is special occasion coming that will be celebrated by having a party. This is especially true when they know that wearing costumes is part of the plan. Toddler imaginations run wild as they anticipate dressing up and acting out the role of their favorite character.

Since costume parties are usually only thrown during a Halloween or a birthday type event, children don’t have many opportunities to dress up in costumes and party like clowns, pirates, or other characters.

However, this doesn’t have to be the case. Why not surprise your children with a costume theme party such as ones from the following themes discussed below. These can be great as toddler costume birthday parties or anytime parties.

Let’s start with a movie theme based party idea. Who doesn’t love to watch the wizard of oz movie? How about sending out invitations inviting friends to spend the day in oz for a kids costume party? Let the parents know that it will be a costume party and for them to wear a costume as a character from the movie. The costumes for this party are all easy to construct with some imagination, poster board and thrift shop clothing should do the trick.

The Dorothy costume can be made with a gingham dress usually found in thrift stores or garage sales, braided hair with ribbons, the ruby slippers can be red slippers, tennis shoes or an old pair of shoes painted red and a basket stuffed with a toy dog.

The scarecrow is coveralls, flannel shirt, old hat from thrift store find; straw can be actually straw or shredded brown paper. The tin man is an old sweat suit painted silver and a hat made from cardboard and painted silver. The lion and the monkeys can be made from sleeper pajamas or over sized clothing in the color desired. The witch is black skirt, shirt, hat made from cardboard and painted black. These costumes can be made in variation just by thinking like a child and using your imagination.

Rent the movie for the day of the party. Using yellow foam board paint bricks on each piece and put them together to form a yellow brick road leading to the room where the movie will be shown. Serve popcorn from black bowls and serve dark colored punch to look like the tin mans oil. This is a great way to have your toddler’s friends over for a Saturday afternoon play date.

Another great idea for a costume party, one that falls outside a holiday theme, is a fairy tea fairy tea and movie party. Send costume fairy-themed party invitations to her friends with instructions that it will be a fairy dress up costume party. Your daughter and her friends will love dressing up like their favorite fairies for a costume tea and movie party.

For costume party decorations, you could decorate the room where the movie will be watched with lots of pink and purple dainty items. A table made from a piece of plywood over the coffee table will be the perfect height for little girls to sip tea at. Put an inexpensive pink or purple sheet over it for a tablecloth and set the table with teacups, small plates and napkins purchased from a dollar store.

The costumes could be easily constructed from items on hand. Provide each child with a wand and a crown as they arrive. These can be purchased very reasonably from many discount stores. Select one of your daughter’s favorite Tinkerbelle movies as the feature presentation. Following the movie, serve them sandwiches that have been cut into the shape of a triangle and fruit punch in tea cups.

These are only two of the vast array of costume parties you could have with your children at any time of the year. Children will have a blast dressing up like their favorite characters for a cartoon.

Oh, and if you are not very good at planning a party and making costumes etc., you can get some great idea ideas for parties decorations, invitations, gifts, and themes from party supply stores.

Tinkerbell party theme

There are no limits to the ideas for having kids costume parties. Make your child’s next party and blast and turn an ordinary Saturday afternoon into a special memorable day.

For instance, does your toddler love wandering out and hanging around while the car is getting worked on, or does your toddler love to help when you wash the car? If he does, you might want to consider getting him some strategically dirtied coveralls and finding him a small toy wrench; after that, he’s ready to take on fixing all the pedal cars on the playground!

On the other hand, does your toddler adore building up Lego cities or playing in blanket forts? Does he or she adore taking things apart, even if they are not great at putting them back together yet? A plastic hard hat and a small belt full of toy tools can be a perfect way to dress up your littlest construction worker.

For those who have children that seem more interested in listening to your heart beat and bandaging your cuts and bruises, a kids doctor costume would be a good choice.  Just seeing your little one dressed up in a prestigious doctor or nurse costume, and imagining, I’m sure is enough to bring a smile to your face.

If your toddler, if when placed amongst other children tends to want to be in control and run things, then a uniform of authority would be appropriate.  If being the boss is what your kid does best, then help him or her play out the role of a leader in costume. Consider how happy your child will be when you combine that natural “bossy” with a cool-looking police officer costume. Toddlers will be drawn to the shiny badge and you’ll soon see how much he or she adores the fuss that people make about him or her!

Choosing the right worker toddler or infant costume can be a lot of fun, so see which ones suit your child’s natural personality and let him or her live out that character on Halloween night.

Ask yourself does your child seem drawn to any particular profession? Or, is he or she more interested in dressing up in a uniform similar to the one mom, dad, or perhaps a friend’s parent wears to work?

Tell us about the character of your amusing toddler and the story behind the worker Halloween costume you chose for him or her for Halloween.
