Yes, costumes make our babies look even cuter than they usually do but that is how we as parents see things. Since that tends to be what matters for us I guess we can be selfish for just one day while we figure out a way to make the little ones feel comfortable wearing a Halloween costume for this special occasion.
I think the key to winning this battle is to make the objective to do what makes the kid feel comfortable. Common sense tells us that the first step is to choose a costume that is not going to cause discomfort. That would mean choosing a costume that is not too tight nor one that restricts their movement too much. Make sure that the costume does not block their vision as children hate not being able to see where mom and dad are. Also, try to make sure that the material the outfit is made of does not irritate their skin and cause itching. Lastly, make sure the costume is appropriate for the climate. Once you can check off on all these items, you are ready to work towards the goal of getting the child to wear the costume without stripping it off.
Getting them to keep it on
Since Halloween outfits can feel unusual to some children, why not help them gradually adjust by putting the costume on them for short periods of time starting a week or so before October 31rst.
